Failure
It's days like this that make me feel like an utter failure as a mother. I'm sure it's mostly hormones, but still. Abbie is going through one of those phases of disobedience, and it's driving me crazy! All day today, if I told her to stop doing something (stop shoving your brother's sippy cut in his mouth, stop running in the house, etc), she would either ignore me completely or look at me and keep right on doing whatever she wanted. It makes me so angry when she does that! She knows better, and today it seemed like all she wanted to do was push my buttons. It didn't help that I was just plain exhausted, but every time I asked her to do something, she'd ignore me. If I asked her to stop doing something, she'd ignore me. It's not like she's being malicious about it at all. She actually thinks it's funny.
How on earth am I going to survive three of them???!!!!

Bowl-A-Phobia
I looked for a legitimate word for it, but couldn't fine one. Probably because it's such a rare condition. Apparently, my 11 month old son is afraid of bowls.
For snacks, I sometimes give him those toddler puffs or other things on his high chair tray. Tonight, I gave him his dinner in a small bowl so he could feed himself, which he usually likes to do. I was chuckling at him because he looked at it like he had no clue what to do with it. He would reach for the food in the bowl, but wouldn't actually put his hand in. I didn't realize what was going on until he dumped all the food out of the bowl, then dove right in to eat. I picked everything up off the tray and put it back in teh bowl, and he would not reach in to get any of the food. He tried to dump it out again, but I wouldn't let him. I gave him a few bites myself, and then he tried to quickly scoop some food out on the tray, then eat it. Then we finally graduated to eating out of the bowl itself.
Thankfully, we conquered that fear quickly tonight. One baby/toddler fear down...who knows how many to go...

1st Grade Field Trip to Lesbian Wedding...Disgraceful!!!
Ok, I have a few friends that are gay, and I'm fine with that. They aren't the militant types that shove their lifestyles down other people's throats. However, it's no secret that I don't at all agree with the gay lifestyle. The Bible is very explicit about this and I trust what God says about it. That being said, it's not my place to judge anyone else for how they live their life. Everyone has to make those decisions themselves.
When I heard today the story about the teacher who took her first grade class on a school sponsored field trip to city hall to witness her lesbian wedding, I was absolutely outraged!
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,436961,00.html
If she wanted her students to be a part of her wedding, then she should have sent individual invitations home to the parents and let them decide whether or not to attend. In no way, shape, or form should this have been a school sponsored event. There were parents who refused to have their children attend, and those children were apparently made to feel like outcasts, and that is so wrong. I have no patience for teachers who try to push their political and moral values on their students. That is for the parents to teach, not the schools. This is almost as bad as the teacher who was telling his elementary school students that their family members serving in Iraq were murderers. What are people thinking? Where are their brains and common sense??

Biggest Sunflower I've Ever Seen
A few weeks ago, my husband went to visit a friend, and he chopped off one of his massive sunflowers and gave it to us so we could harvest the seeds and plant our own next year. This is honestly the biggest sunflower I've ever seen! I took the seeds off today, and filled to the brim a small baking dish. I took a picture of Abbie holding it to show just how huge this thing is! I'm thinking that I'll plant a bunch of them next year, and maybe share some seeds with others. I found a magazine article last year about making a sunflower play house, so maybe I'll do that, too. Basically, you plant parallel rows of sunflowers, and when they start to bloom, you pull them together to make a "roof" and the kids can play underneath. It was really cool! I'll be sure and attach pics if I end up doing that next year.

Gripe About Doctors
Ok, just a warning. I'm going to rant! Last Wednesday, I was enjoying a quiet, relaxing lunch with my family when all of the sudden, I was hit with excrutiating pain in my upper abdomen. Being 17 weeks pregnant, it scared me, although I really didn't think it was the baby because the pain was way too high. I called my OB anyway, and she wanted to see me, so I made my way into town. They checked the baby's heartbeat, and all was fine, so they sent me for labs and scheduled an abdominal ultrasound for the next day to check my gallbladder. What irritated my husband to no end was that they sent me home, in pain, with no clue as to what was causing it or how to manage it. The next day, I went to walk in care before my ultrasound to see if I could et any more answers. Nope. Nothing other than to take Tylenol and "listen to my body" and rest when I needed to. Then I went to the hospital for my ultrasound, which the tech said looked totally normal to him. I heard nothing more until Monday when my OB's office called me. Now, it's never a good thing when the doctor herself wants to speak to you rather than just let a nurse relay the information. She said that my amylase and lipase levels were high, which was indicative of pancreatitis. She wanted to get more labs that evening and a repeat ultrasound the next day because they didn't give her the information that she wanted. So, I scramble to find a babysitter and drive an hour into town to get my labs redrawn last night, and drive that same hour in this morning for the repeat ultrasound. It turns out that the trip this morning was all for nothing. They called me in for the ultrasound, and I explained to the girl why I was there, and she said that she wanted to check the computer and see what kind of scan was done last week so that she didn't repeat it. About 10 minutes later, she came back and said that the correct scan was done last week, but the radiologist had done his report on the OB ultrasound that I had done back in July. WHAT??!!! She said that they were getting a doctor in to read the correct scan immediately, and that it would just be a little while. So, I drove all that way in, including dragging my 3 year old and 11 month old in, as well as having a friend make a special trip in to watch them for me...ALL FOR NOTHING!!! Talk about mad! Then, they try to make it up to me by giving me three $1.50 gift certificates to the hospital cafeteria and a small Dunkin Donuts gift card. Yeah, like that's going to make up for all that hassle, gas money, wear and tear on the car, and time off work. Nope, I'm not happy!
The good news from all this is that the lab levels have come back down to within normal limits, and the ultrasound was absolutely negative. No inflammation, no gallstones, nothing. We have no clue what triggered this event or why it resolved spontaneously. The only direction I got from my doctor was that if it happened again, I was to call her immediately. This condition usually requires hospitalization, and after doing some reading online, I got really freaked out, so I just had to stop reading. Hopefully, it will never happen again!!

It's Been A While
It's been a really long time since I've posted any blogs, but now I'm back. I had created MySpace and Facebook pages, but I prefer this blog more, so I'm back.
So, what's happened since I blogged last? Well, Kevin and I are expecting our third little bundle of joy in March. I'm almost 18 weeks along and doing just fine. We find out on October 22nd what we're having. Personally, I think it's a girl, but we'll just have to see.
Abbie and Daniel are doing very well. Abbie is in dance class now, taking ballet and tap. She just loves it! We've also started her on preschool workbooks, teaching her to recognize and write her letters and numbers. She's dying to learn how to read by herself, so we're accomodating her. Daniel will be 11 months old tomorrow, and is growing like a little weed. He's cruising around now, and we expect that he'll be walking anytime. He's always smiling and giggling, and is just a joy!
I've got a couple of previous blog entries that I had trouble posting before. I'll try to get them on here.
It's great to be back!!

Peek A Boo Daniel
Daniel has recently learned the concept of peek a boo, and it's adorable! He will play with a blanket or towel, but bouncing in the playpen is his favorite. I managed to get a video of him doing it. Enjoy!
